boo to the mutha f-ing yah! [Nov. 9th, 2006|09:41 am]
okay.. just a little tid bit about the elections...

a. democrats won the house, 28 confirmed pickups and when all the recounts are over, i'm going to say there will be at least 4 more new democrats in the house (hopefully WA-08, that Reichart needs to go).

b. democrats won the senate. tester and webb will be announced the winner and more than likely, neither burns nor allen will call for recounts, why? because neither of them wants to get into invesigation land about all the stupid robo-call, voter intimidation tactics that went into play during the last 72 hours of the campaign. but that's wishful thinking, i'm sure rove and his buddies will attempt to do something since having both houses in the hands of democrats really will suck for any kind of "agenda"... i.e. think about no real supreme court pick will get through a democratically controlled senate.

even though exit polling will tell you that people's number one issue was iraq and that repubs did this to themselves, if you also look at what people want government to do, they overwhelmingly support democratic ideas (raising minimum wage, stem cell research, actually doing some intelligence before starting a fucking war) so while republicans really fucked up which may have tipped the balance on the whole, the country isn't conversative.. not by a long shot.

i like to think of this as a nice big "fuck you" from the american public who is just damn sick of terror alerts that mean nothing, an assministration that doesn't have any shame in using the 9-11 for political gain even when it was their fucking blunder, signing statements by the imperial president who thought he was above the law, unmitigated wasteful spending..

sanity has returned. and for all the conservatives that have called me a traitor or any of that other garbage, you can all eat the corn out of my shit.

democrats are in the mother-fing house! and if things go the way they're looking, they'll be in the senate as well.. the 6 year nightmare of one party rule is now over. i'm still a bit under the weather but i'm going to go have myself a pint.

the colbert report [May. 1st, 2006|01:32 pm]
[Tags|]

i have to say, i just watched (well, not really, i did that a couple of night's ago now) the address given by Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondants dinner and I have to say, it at least, for a moment, made me proud to be an american again. I mean, here is a guy with stones, serious fucking stones, not 20 feet from the president ripping him a new asshole. And he didn't get up there and tell him what a fucking jerkoff he was, which would have been great, don't get me wrong. But he got up there and took the satirical oyster knife to him. Slowly removing what remains of the man's liver and then showing it to the audience in horror. But he was just getting warmed up. Oh no, he didn't leave a stone unturned, calling the press out, making barbs at the military. The only thing that was wrong was the he didn't speak for another 20 or 30 minutes. Sure he didn't get the standing ovations he deserved, since it wasn't nearly as humorous as the president wandering around looking for weapons of mass destruction underneath tables and chairs, those same WMDs being the "primary" reason we now have 2,200+ dead soldiers and 10,000+ wounded. I mean, that's a fucking side splitter. But yes, for a moment, it was good to know that you can still call someone a jackass (and some people have it down to an art form) and you can still do it in front of the very people who've enabled him.

If you haven't seen it, really, you should. The previous link is only about half of what was actually said. If I feel motivated, I am sure I could easily dig up the actual text. If you do decide to read it, keep in mind this is done from a podium in front of the press corpse, the president and a lot of well dressed morons.

As a coworker said to me before i left SD.. who knows, maybe when you come back there'll be a new government? Who knows. I'm just hoping it isn't a dictatorship.

yet another reason why.. [Mar. 22nd, 2006|05:27 pm]
i'm glad i don't live in texas (anymore).

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060322/us_nm/bars_dc

what the AP story doesn't tell you is that they arrested people in a hotel bar who had registered to stay the night there and were not going to drive. which is why the absurd comment about how drunk people do stupid things, besides drive.. yea, no fucking shit. can't remember the last time I jumped for a swimming pool from a room balcony when I was drunk or walked into oncoming traffic but I know it was too many times to count. shame i didn't have the texas PD there to babysit me. hell, walker texas ranger could have come and kicked my drunk ass and enjoyed some high praise for saving me from myself.

but i suppose instead of focusing on the crazy nanny police state that is going on in tejas, i should focus on the benefits. like say, the saving the bridesmaid's honor after the bachelorette party has gone a bit too crazy or stopping people from getting ritual spankings down at the frat house. think of all the coyote situations that could be avoided if the police were there to drop you in the pokey before you were to wander off with some undesireable tramp.

shit, i know my phone bills would have been cheaper.

hmm. still doesn't work me. thank god i don't live in texas (anymore).

March madness. [Mar. 16th, 2006|09:10 am]
Here's my brackets (not that you really care ;)).

----------

...march madness brackets (first round).. )

...march madness brackets (second round).. )

...march madness brackets (final 4).. )

...march madness brackets (championship game).. )

So I'm in a pool with a bunch of the other guys at work. I'm guessing I'll probably be out of it by friday when all my "upset" predictions turn out wrong or someone big (like Duke) gets blown out by some nobody. Should make it a bit more interesting to "watch" (hard to watch this stuff when you lack a tv).

Holy terror, Batman! Gotham's under attack, and the caped crusader is the only one who can kick al-Qaida's butt.

That, in essence, is the plot of the latest Batman comic book by leading graphic novelist Frank Miller.

nyc to new zealand $598 [Feb. 10th, 2006|10:17 am]
[Tags|]

http://www.onlinetravelreview.com/online_travel_review/2006/02/new_york_to_new.html

Air Tahiti Nui has a fantastic sale for flights from New York to Auckland, New Zealand. Round trip fares are just $598 for flights March 27th to June 10th. Added bonus? Free stopover in Tahiti. You can't beat that.

----

Just to give you some perspective. My flight last february cost me something like $1500 for the summer (granted I bought it months and months out). This is as cheap as it gets, esp. given the free stop over. Even given a $300 flight to NYC, you'd still be miles ahead.

as i said to my brother.. seattle, the buffalo of the west. [Feb. 5th, 2006|10:10 pm]
at least as far as sports go...

haven't won a damn thing, like ever. in any light, it seems universally evident to basically everyone (outside of pittsburgh and it's surrounding areas) that the officiating for that game was nothing short of brutal. a touchy pass interference call (which i saw and thought was complete bs), the rothlesburger non-touchdown, (which i saw and thought wasn't in, but willing to give the benefit of the doubt).. the other calls, well, lets just say that the ride home was a good 45 minutes of people calling in to the local radio sports station say that they didn't have a dog in the fight (i.e. they weren't fans of either team) but thought that the calls were complete bullshit.

anywho, i didn't really have a dog in the fight either. seattle is my adopted home, i watch the games and root for them because they rarely play the bills. were they in the same division, i'd root for them to lose. still it would have been great for the city and the people to be able to hold up that throphy.

oh well. this bitter disappointment isn't mine, the bills were out of it before the season started it seems..

anyway, congrats to pittsburgh. a tainted win is still a win. ask the dallas stars.

booyah bitches [Jan. 27th, 2006|01:08 pm]
one more reason why i like calling washington state my home.

OLYMPIA -- The Senate[Washington state senate] today voted 25-23 to approve a gay rights bill and ended the debate over legislation that emerged in Washington the same year singer Anita Bryant began her "Save Our Children" crusade against such protections.

The bill would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, lending and employment.

....

Of note, the one republican that switched his vote is in an election fight of his life and is hoping that if he appears more moderate he won't get his ass kicked.

go seahawks!

Go sabes. [Dec. 27th, 2005|06:08 pm]

Buffalo Sabres among our Rankings' best

So, there was a little movement within the Top 10 this week, but we still can't see the Ottawa Senators out of the top spot.

The Buffalo Sabres, yes, the Buffalo Sabres, are up to No. 3 after winning their seventh straight game Monday. Buffalo is also threatening to take over the Northeast lead, a spot the Senators have held from the get-go.

....

17-1-1 in their last 19 games, Miller has looked stellar, they came back from a 3-1 deficit last night to crush the Islanders 6-3. I called up from the bar in San Fran last night to ask how they did, my brother answered, "you have to ask? they won. of course, the islanders had to play snow because they didn't want Miller to school DiPietro *again* and make the idiots that selected him for the olypmics look more like fools".

The sabres doing well makes it so much easier to deal with the Bills sucking so bad. Of course, when there is something in it for losing they have to go and win one against the Bengals, which have the lamest fricken tiger ever in the middle of their stadium. Here's to our top.. err. 15 draft pick.

Thank god hockey is back.
